An explosion struck early Monday morning in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, raising fresh concerns about security in the region. Authorities are still assessing the situation, and the exact number of casualties remains unclear, though some are feared dead.

The blast comes just weeks after a series of deadly attacks in nearby communities prompted a high-level response from the Federal Government. In February, Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Kaiama to console victims of attacks in Nuku and Woro and assured residents of renewed efforts to restore peace.

During the visit, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to stabilising the area, announcing the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion and emergency support via the “,”Nigeria disaster agency”], in collaboration with the state government. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed that security forces had already been mobilised under Operation Savannah Shield.

Monday’s explosion has reignited fears among residents, casting doubt on the effectiveness of recent security interventions and underscoring the fragility of peace in the affected communities.
