Human rights activist Israel Joe has responded to reactions following the release of alleged WhatsApp chats between the late Favour Agbro and detained content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba.
The leaked conversation sparked debate online, with some questioning why Favour had asked Odogwu Asaba for money. In a statement, Joe, who said he drafted the petition that led to the influencer’s arrest, insisted the money was not a settlement but was meant to cover treatment for an infection Favour allegedly contracted after the alleged sexual assault.
Clarifying the situation, he wrote:
“Yes, what you heard was true… being the person that composed the petition leading to the arrest of Odogwu Asaba even after the burial of Favour at Agbaro, a lot of persons are sending messages to confirm what they have heard.
“The money late Miss Favour was requesting from Odogwu Asaba was to treat the infection he gave her. You can see what led to her frustration and depression.”
Joe further alleged that Favour had never suffered from a sexually transmitted infection before the incident and said she became emotionally distressed after allegedly being ignored, threatened and intimidated whenever she reached out to Odogwu Asaba for help.
He also revealed that she once messaged the content creator, saying:
“This early morning. You are bringing back my tears this man.”
The activist urged the public to stop judging the deceased based on her appearance or actions, adding that the case should focus on the allegations and the evidence.
Joe disclosed that Favour’s body would be exhumed for a proper autopsy and said the Delta State Police Command had already obtained her medical records from the hospitals where she reportedly sought treatment before her death. He vowed to continue seeking justice for the late 20-year-old.
