Burna Boy took centre stage at the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, becoming one of the headline performers at the tournament’s first-ever half-time show.
The Nigerian Afrobeats sensation joined Colombian superstar Shakira to perform their song, Dai Dai, as Argentina faced Spain in the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
The performance marked Burna Boy’s maiden appearance at a World Cup final, with thousands of fans erupting in applause as Shakira welcomed him to the stage.
The 11-minute musical showcase featured several globally acclaimed entertainers.
Madonna opened the show with a performance of Music, making a dramatic entrance in a buggy driven by Brazilian football icons Ronaldo Nazário and Ronaldinho.
BTS star J-Hope followed with Dynamite, while Justin Bieber performed a special World Cup edition of Everything Hallelujah after being introduced by Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt.
Shakira later returned for the closing act alongside a children’s choir from Staten Island, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, ending the show with We Believe in Love.
The colourful half-time entertainment gave fans a break from the fiercely contested final and came after a pre-match ceremony featuring Robbie Williams, Post Malone and popular YouTuber IShowSpeed.
