Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has expressed displeasure after a surprise inspection of the state secretariat exposed widespread absenteeism among senior civil servants and government officials.
During the visit, the governor discovered that the offices of the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service and the Accountant General were locked despite official working hours. A number of commissioners and permanent secretaries were also nowhere to be found.
The only commissioner present was the Commissioner for Works, while the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Health and Livestock Development were also at their duty posts.
With just one of the state’s 18 commissioners found in the office, Governor Namadi described the situation as unacceptable.
He warned that his administration would not tolerate absenteeism, indiscipline or negligence in the civil service, stressing that public officials must be available to carry out their responsibilities.
According to the governor, the unscheduled inspection is part of efforts to strengthen accountability, improve service delivery and ensure government workers remain committed to serving the people of Jigawa State.
