Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has opened up about his broken friendship with Nigerian singer Burna Boy, revealing that the two were once very close before misunderstandings drove them apart.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale recalled that Burna Boy personally called him before travelling to Ghana and asked him to pick him up from the airport, a gesture he said no other Nigerian artiste had ever made.
According to him, he ensured Burna Boy enjoyed a comfortable stay by providing accommodation, vehicles and everything else he needed throughout his visit.
“I was treating Burna Boy in Ghana like a king. I was showing him the roads of Ghana. I gave him a house, gave him cars. He wasn’t wasting money in Ghana,” he said.
Shatta Wale claimed their friendship later deteriorated after people who had fallen out with his team allegedly spread false information about him.
According to the singer, those individuals allegedly told Burna Boy that he had an affair with a woman Burna Boy had brought to Ghana, a claim he insists was untrue.
“They told Burna Boy that I was f^cking his girl he brought to Ghana. He just bought it,” he said.
He added that he was surprised when Burna Boy suddenly stopped responding to his phone calls and messages, especially as his career continued to grow.
In an effort to understand what had gone wrong, Shatta Wale said he even contacted Burna Boy’s mother, whom he described as someone he deeply respects, but only received explanations for why Burna Boy was unavailable.
“I didn’t know they’ve told them, and he’s decided not to talk to me. I just thank God that God has put Burna somewhere, but it hurts me that he didn’t listen to me to explain to him that this was what the boys were doing,” he said.
Despite the fallout, Shatta Wale said he remains hurt because he never had the opportunity to explain his side of the story before their friendship came to an end.
