The body of 20-year-old Favour Agbro, the Delta State woman who allegedly took her own life after accusing Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu of Asaba, of rape, has been exhumed as part of the ongoing investigation into her death.
The development was disclosed by human rights activist Israel Joe, who said the exhumation and autopsy were carried out on Tuesday by the investigating team alongside qualified pathologists.
According to him, the post-mortem examination was conducted in the presence of all parties connected to the case, including legal representatives of the accused.
Joe explained that he and another activist travelled to Agbaro in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, where Favour was buried, to witness the exhumation process.
He said they met with the deceased’s father and other family members, who made the necessary arrangements before the body was removed for examination.
The activist also described an emotional moment during the exercise, revealing that Favour’s twin sister requested permission to place bread and sardines at her graveside after claiming her late sister appeared to her in a dream saying she was hungry.
The request was approved before the body was exhumed for the autopsy.
“The autopsy has just been conducted on the deceased Miss Favour Agbro by the investigating team and competent pathologists with the presence of all parties, including the lawyer of Odogwu Asaba,” Joe wrote.
“Her twin sister had brought sardine and bread for late Favour, arguing that she appeared to her, saying that she was hungry.
“She wanted to put the food in the grave as she would be laid to rest immediately after the autopsy analysis by the pathologist in the presence of all parties. It was graciously granted amid wailings, agony, sorrow and tears.”
Joe thanked members of the public for supporting the investigation and standing with Favour’s family during the difficult period.
“We wish to thank everyone for their support towards the investigations, and solidarity towards the family at this grievous time of their sudden grief occasioned by Odogwu Asaba. God bless you all. We shall follow up until justice is manifestly seen to have been done,” he said.
The autopsy report is expected to play a key role in determining the circumstances surrounding Favour Agbro’s death as investigations continue.
