Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, has died, bringing to an end a long career in public service and national administration.

His family announced his death in a statement released on Thursday.

Alhaji served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1991 during the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida. Before then, he was appointed Minister of State for Budget and Planning in 1988.

He also held the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), where he played a key role in the administration of government affairs.

Widely regarded as an experienced administrator, Alhaji built a distinguished career in Nigeria’s civil service, occupying several important positions throughout his years of public service.
