Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about his rise to fame, saying his journey is unique because he was able to build a successful music career despite coming from a wealthy family.
Speaking during an appearance on the Vibe Podcast, the singer said many people are inspired by stories of individuals who rose from poverty to wealth, but believes his own experience is different because he carved out his own path as the son of a billionaire.
According to Davido, he did not want to be known only for his family’s fortune but worked hard to establish his own identity and achieve success through music.
He said:
“Africans usually like the grass to grace story, the young boy that was poor and became rich.. but not to brag, which other billionaire’s child do you know in the world, I am not talking about Africa that has made a name for himself and also made a lot of money? You can’t name one apart from me.”
Davido added that creating his own legacy and earning recognition through his career is something he is proud of, saying his achievements go beyond the wealth and influence of his family.
