Ben Affleck and Jeopardy! champion Jamie Ding have walked away with the $1 million grand prize on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, with the entire amount set to benefit charity.
The pair secured the top prize during Wednesday’s episode, making Affleck the second Good Will Hunting star to achieve the feat after his longtime friend and co-star, Matt Damon, won $1 million on the show last year.
Their journey to victory came down to one final question, which asked them to identify the only pair of turkeys that had never been granted a presidential pardon in the United States. The options were Peanut Butter and Jelly, Tater and Tot, Mac and Cheese, and Spaghetti and Meatball.
Not completely confident about the answer, Affleck and Ding asked host Jimmy Kimmel for his opinion. Kimmel cautiously suggested Spaghetti and Meatball, while Ding’s trivia partner, Stephen Morrison, chose not to make a guess.
Convinced by Kimmel’s advice, Affleck said:
“I would bet on Jimmy. I would go for it.”
They submitted Spaghetti and Meatball as their final answer, and the studio fell silent as everyone waited for the result.
Kimmel admitted he was feeling the pressure, saying:
“I have such a stomachache right now.”
After a dramatic pause, the answer was revealed to be correct, prompting cheers from the audience as Affleck and Ding celebrated their victory with a hug while confetti filled the stage.
The winning duo were then presented with a $1 million cheque, with the proceeds going to Affleck’s Eastern Congo Initiative charity.
