The Kano State Hisbah Board has taken a popular TikTok creator, Namadina Tudunwada, into custody over allegations that one of his videos promoted fornication among young people.
The development was confirmed on Monday by the Board’s Deputy Commander-General, Mujahid Aminuddeen, in a statement.
According to the statement, Hisbah operatives in Tudunwada Local Government Area arrested the content creator after a video circulated online in which he compared the financial cost of marriage with that of engaging in illicit sexual relationships.
In the viral clip, Namadina allegedly claimed that fornication could cost about ₦2,000, while getting married might require around ₦200,000. The Board said the comparison could discourage young people from embracing marriage.
Hisbah accused the TikToker of presenting immoral behaviour as a cheaper and more attractive option than marriage, alleging that the content could negatively influence youths.
“The suspect was arrested after making statements capable of misleading young people and promoting immoral behaviour,” the Board stated.
Aminuddeen said investigations into the matter would continue and assured that any further action would be taken in line with the law.
“We will expand our investigation and take the appropriate action in accordance with the law,” he said.
The Board also warned social media influencers and digital content creators to be mindful of the material they publish, stressing that online content should reflect moral and religious values and that posts capable of promoting immorality could attract legal consequences.
