Award-winning gospel singer Frank Edwards has opened up about the difficult circumstances he faced before achieving success, revealing that he recorded one of his biggest songs while living in someone else’s home and using a blanket as a substitute for a recording booth.
During a recent church ministration, the singer recounted how his mother gave him ₦150,000 in 2011 to help him establish a small recording studio.
According to Frank, he used the money to set up a simple studio in one corner of the room where he was squatting. With no soundproof booth and constant noise from the nearby road, he improvised by covering both himself and his microphone with a blanket while recording his hit track, “Mma Mma.”
He said:
“I recorded ‘Mma Mma’ under a blanket because we lived close to the roadside. I had only two pairs of jeans and ate once a day, but God still lifted me.”
Frank also revealed that his life took a dramatic turn after a representative of Honesty Music visited the makeshift studio. Although the visitor initially doubted the studio because of its appearance, he was impressed after listening to the songs.
The gospel singer said the encounter led to a ₦4 million recording contract, which he signed immediately without reading the terms.
“I just flipped the paper, saw where they wrote ₦4 million and signed it. No need to read it. Make I chop first,” he recalled.
