A deadly ambush in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State may have claimed the lives of nine soldiers and a police officer, officials say.
Governor Nasir Idris confirmed the attack, which took place on Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants struck in the Giro Masa community while security forces were on duty. The gunmen, believed to have been operating in the area for some time, were reportedly tracked to a construction company yard by authorities.
Acting on a tip from local residents, soldiers were dispatched to the location but were ambushed en route. The attack left several military personnel dead, two civilians killed, and two military trucks set ablaze.
Residents, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the scene as terrifying and chaotic, saying the community remains in shock.
Military authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
