Daddy Freeze has reacted to the controversy surrounding car spotters on Lekki roads, saying their activities should be properly regulated rather than simply branding them as criminals.

The media personality admitted that some car spotters can become disruptive, particularly when they chase vehicles, shout at motorists or stand directly in front of cars. He said he had previously spoken with YL, Lekki Car Guy and others about changing such behaviour.

According to him, car spotters in other countries generally remain at the roadside while photographing and recording exotic vehicles instead of obstructing traffic.

However, Freeze questioned the government’s approach to the issue, arguing that removing the car spotters without providing alternative means of earning a living would be unfair.

He said:

“Now here’s my take. While I agree that sometimes these car spotters can be a bit annoying and aggressive, I’ve spoken several times to YL, to Lekki car guy and to one or two of them: stop shouting and running after cars, stop standing on the road in front of cars.

“Abroad, car spotters just stand by the side of the road and take their pictures and shoot their videos and go their way.

“But I think it is unfair for the government to call them criminal because what other source of legitimate income has the government provided? What other source of legitimate income has the government provided?”
