Human rights activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the reported attempt to prevent Peter Obi from accessing the Yelwata Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Benue State.
Yesufu argued that neither an individual nor a group should have the authority to determine where political candidates can travel or campaign within Nigeria.
DAILY POST reports that tension reportedly erupted in Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road as Obi arrived in the state.
Following the incident, Obi expressed concern over the state of Nigerian politics, while clarifying that his visit to the state was humanitarian and not intended as a campaign activity.
Reacting to the development, Yesufu said, “How dare anybody stop anyone from moving to any part of the country to campaign?
“The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared that campaign has started. How can someone stop another from doing whatever it is that they need to do?”
