Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has called for lifetime stadium bans for Saudi Pro League supporters who taunted Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves with chants referencing his late friend and former teammate, Diogo Jota.

The incident occurred during a league fixture on Saturday, when Neves was seen reacting to Al-Taawoun supporters who directed the chants at him.

The Portugal international appeared to respond by signalling that ‘God is watching’, pointing first towards the sky, then at his eyes before gesturing towards the supporters.

The incident drew a strong reaction from Ronaldo, who condemned the behaviour and called on the league authorities to impose severe sanctions on those involved.

“The league must take action and punish this kind of fan behavior.

“This is no longer football, and there have to be limits. People who behave like this should never be allowed to enter a stadium again.”

Ronaldo’s comments have added to calls for stronger measures against supporters who cross the line with offensive or insensitive conduct during football matches.

The fixture ended in a heavy defeat for Al-Taawoun, with Al-Hilal securing a 6-0 victory in the Saudi Pro League encounter.
