The Federal Government is set to impose sanctions on Air Peace, United Nigeria Airlines and other domestic carriers over persistent delays in scheduled flights.
The development follows a report by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which identified Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines among the airlines with the highest number of delayed flights in August 2026.
According to the report released by the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, 4,765 of the 7,961 domestic flights scheduled for August were delayed.
The figures indicate that nearly six out of every 10 flights failed to operate according to schedule during the month.
A further breakdown showed that 71 per cent of Air Peace flights and 76 per cent of United Nigeria Airlines flights were delayed in August.
The high rate of delays has continued to affect domestic air travellers across the country, with passengers also contending with rising airfares.
Speaking on the development, Achimugu said the NCAA had commenced regulatory measures to address the persistent delays.
He disclosed that the aviation regulator had held meetings with Air Peace, United Nigeria Airlines and Max Air over the issue and issued stern warnings to the affected airlines.
Achimugu also advised passengers to consider other airlines when making travel arrangements, particularly where a carrier has a persistent record of delays.
“When one airline is continuously misbehaving, buy tickets on another airline and make your flight,” he said.
