The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The commission made the declaration on Wednesday in a notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, and released Maina’s photograph while appealing to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact the agency or other security authorities.

According to the EFCC, Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu, Borno State. The commission listed its offices across several cities, including Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna and Ibadan, as points where information about his whereabouts could be provided.

The latest declaration comes amid Maina’s long-running legal battles over pension-related financial offences. In October 2019, he was arraigned by the EFCC before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering and pleaded not guilty.

In November 2021, Justice Okon Abang convicted Maina on charges involving more than N2 billion. The Court of Appeal subsequently upheld the conviction in 2023. His prison sentence, which totalled 61 years but was to run concurrently, effectively amounted to eight years.

Maina was later released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after serving his sentence. However, the EFCC’s latest wanted notice concerns an alleged case of receiving stolen property and is separate from the earlier conviction for which he served his prison term.

The EFCC has urged anyone with useful information concerning Maina’s whereabouts to contact the commission, the nearest police station or other security agencies.
