Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The appointment was announced on Thursday as the ADC unveiled its campaign structure for the forthcoming presidential election. El-Rufai was named alongside other prominent figures, with Kashim Ibrahim-Imam appointed Chairman and Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu named Director-General and Campaign Manager.

According to the structure released by the campaign, El-Rufai is expected to play a key role in political coordination and stakeholder engagement as the party prepares for the election.

The appointment comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the former Kaduna governor. Reports indicate that El-Rufai is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with investigations and related proceedings.

El-Rufai is also involved in separate legal proceedings, including a case reportedly filed by the Department of State Services concerning allegations related to the interception of communications involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The ADC campaign council is structured around six major operational directorates, with various officials assigned responsibilities covering administration, operations, media and communications, mobilisation, diversity and support groups, and technical and systems coordination.

The unveiling marks a further step in the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with Atiku’s campaign team now formally taking shape.
