Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced a bold plan to make the state completely independent from the national electricity grid. He said the initiative aims to provide residents and businesses with a more reliable and sustainable power supply by pursuing alternative energy solutions.
“My plan is to remove Abia from the National Grid,” Otti stated, stressing the government’s commitment to transforming the state’s power sector. He disclosed that the Commissioner for Power is in the Netherlands negotiating partnerships with private companies to support the project.
Otti noted that while the initiative is privately driven, the state government is fully backing it, emphasizing its potential to end the state’s reliance on the national grid. “This initiative will ensure that Abia no longer suffers from national grid failures and will allow us to generate and manage our own electricity,” he added, highlighting the administration’s dedication to infrastructure development and improving citizens’ quality of life.
