A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has said ongoing coalition talks among opposition groups are aimed at defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Melaye disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, where he reaffirmed his position that Tinubu must be defeated at the polls.

His comments come amid renewed efforts by opposition political parties to form a common front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The coalition, operating under the aegis of G100, is reportedly spearheading plans for a National Opposition Summit aimed at developing a coordinated strategy for opposition parties ahead of the elections.

The group has also proposed a Government of National Competence built around a single four-year transitional term as part of its broader framework for cooperation among opposition parties.

The APC came to power in 2015 after defeating the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and taking over from the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Melaye, in his post, said the opposition coalition discussions were ongoing, stating: “Coalition talk is on. Tinubu must go.”
