The Federal Government has directed the immediate withdrawal and deactivation of Nigerian international passports belonging to individuals who have officially renounced their citizenship.
The directive was issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Saturday via the ministry’s official X handle, with instructions to the Nigeria Immigration Service to enforce compliance without delay.
According to a statement signed by the minister’s media aide, Alao Babatunde, the directive applies only to individuals whose renunciation of Nigerian citizenship has been duly approved by the President, in line with constitutional requirements.
The minister said the move is aimed at strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s citizenship framework and preventing any possible misuse of official travel documents.
