Omah Lay has reiterated his belief that he stands above his peers in Afrobeats, confidently calling himself the greatest artiste of the decade — but strictly from an artistic standpoint.
During a recent interview with Capital Xtra, the singer emphasized that his claim is not based on charts, fame, or public recognition, but on the depth and quality of his music.
“I am the greatest Afrobeats artiste of the decade. I am the greatest,” he stated.
He, however, acknowledged that when it comes to popularity, streaming numbers, and star power, others might be ranked ahead of him.
“Well, you can say numbers, and personality, and the level of fame, and stardom, maybe you would not consider me. When it comes to the art itself, I am the greatest.”
This isn’t the first time the Port Harcourt-born artiste has made such a bold declaration, as he has previously described himself as Nigeria’s best artiste over the past two decades.
