Aisha Achimugu, founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, has rejected claims that her wealth is connected to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, insisting she has been a self-made entrepreneur since 2001.

She made the clarification during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, amid ongoing public scrutiny over her finances and a legal case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to her, her business journey began more than two decades ago and is rooted in legitimate commercial activities within the oil and gas sector.

“I started my business in 2001. My background is a decent family. My late husband was the MD of PPMCC. I met him in the course of the work. I actually met him doing business in NNPC,” she said.

When asked directly if her wealth was linked to Sanwo-Olu or any other influential contacts, she firmly denied it, saying: “Not at all.”

Achimugu gained national attention in January 2024 after hosting a lavish seven-day 50th birthday celebration in Grenada. The event attracted several prominent Nigerian political and entertainment figures, including Governor Sanwo-Olu, which later sparked public speculation about the origin of her wealth.

In April 2025, the EFCC declared her wanted over allegations of money laundering. She was later arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on April 29, 2025.
