Manchester United and Sunderland played out a goalless draw in a Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light, with both sides failing to find a breakthrough despite several clear chances.

The hosts started brightly in the first half, with Chemsdine Talbi and Noah Sadiki coming close, while Joshua Zirkzee went closest for United, heading narrowly over.

Sunderland continued to pose a threat after the restart, as goalkeeper Senne Lammens produced a strong save to deny Brian Brobbey, while Lutsharel Geertruida struck the post in a close call. At the other end, United nearly stole it late on, but Matheus Cunha was denied by a save.

The match eventually petered out into a draw, a result that extends Manchester United’s unbeaten run to four league games after already securing Champions League qualification for next season. Sunderland, meanwhile, picked up a second straight draw.

Sunderland made one change from their previous match against Wolves, with the suspended Dan Ballard replaced by Geertruida. Manchester United, on the other hand, made five alterations from the side that defeated Liverpool, including a start for former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo, who previously impressed during his 2022–2023 spell on Wearside.

Talbi was lively early on, curling just wide before Sadiki was denied by a low save after a neat team move involving Enzo Le Fée. United’s first real opening came from Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick, but Amad fired wide from the edge of the box.

The hosts dominated possession and had a penalty appeal waved away after Le Fée’s effort struck Amad’s arm. Sunderland continued to press, with Lammens punching away a dangerous set-piece before Zirkzee headed just over from Cunha’s cross.

In a tense second half, Sunderland remained in control for long spells, with Brobbey and Sadiki both going close, but neither side could find the decisive moment as the match ended level.
