Manchester United have reportedly decided to appoint Michael Carrick as their permanent manager, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty over the club’s managerial direction.

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the decision has been in place for several weeks and has already been approved by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s new leadership structure. A new contract is expected to be signed in the coming days.

Carrick is set to sign either a two-year deal with an option to extend or a straight three-year contract, with the former Manchester United midfielder said to have fully agreed to the terms.

The former player and coach has reportedly impressed the hierarchy with his performances while in interim charge, earning praise for his tactical awareness, calm leadership, and strong understanding of the club’s identity.

His impact is said to have helped steady Manchester United’s form, with the club now reportedly on course for a return to UEFA Champions League football.

An official announcement is expected soon, once final contract details are completed.
