The Nigerian social media space has been plunged into grief following the de.ath of popular TikTok content creator Monique Pearls.
Monique Pearls, whose real name was Monica Okafor Owuunaka, passed away at the age of 30.
The Abuja-based content creator, originally from Cross River State, was widely celebrated for her emotional and relatable videos centered on motherhood, family life, and caregiving.
Her content often featured a young girl known as Precious, reportedly brought in from the village by her family. Their bond became a recurring theme in her storytelling, earning her admiration from followers who connected deeply with her family-oriented content.
A statement released by the family reads:
“It is with deep pain and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend, Monica Oma Owunaka.
“Monica was a beautiful soul whose love, kindness, strength, and presence touched so many lives. She brought warmth, joy, and light to everyone around her, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
“Words cannot fully express the depth of this loss or the pain of saying goodbye so suddenly. Though her time with us was far too short, the love she shared and the impact she made will never be forgotten.
“During this difficult time, we kindly ask for prayers, love, and strength for the family and everyone mourning this heartbreaking loss.”
She is survived by her husband and young son, Lael.
As of the time of filing this report, the family has not disclosed the cause of her de.ath.
