The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday paid a visit to former Rivers State governor and his major rival in the party’s primary, Rotimi Amaechi.

Atiku had emerged winner of the recently concluded ADC presidential primary, defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2027 election.

Amaechi, however, had rejected the outcome of the exercise even before the official announcement of results, alleging that the process was not transparent and was marred by irregularities.

In his acceptance speech after securing the ticket, Atiku had called on Amaechi and other aggrieved aspirants to close ranks and work together ahead of the general election.

Details of the Thursday meeting between both men were still unclear as of press time, as neither Atiku nor Amaechi addressed journalists after the meeting.

Party insiders, however, suggested that the visit may be part of ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at uniting key stakeholders and potentially winning Amaechi’s support ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
