The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has denied claims that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has been involved in campaigning for any political party in power, insisting that he has remained non-partisan in his public conduct.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the church said Adeboye has consistently encouraged Nigerians to participate in elections by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting according to their conscience, without endorsing any political candidate or party.
The RCCG also addressed reports suggesting that the cleric stopped a planned protest, clarifying that he only relayed instructions from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) concerning adjustments to a three-day prayer programme and rally.
It explained that the directive involved shifting the structure of the programme, including holding the grand finale at a central venue, along with a rally organised around the location, as communicated to all PFN-affiliated churches nationwide.
The church further dismissed suggestions that Adeboye deliberately avoids speaking on national issues, stating that he has, on several occasions, addressed concerns such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, governance, elections, and leadership, typically through moral guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than political commentary.
RCCG warned against what it described as the spread of false narratives, insisting that neither the church nor its leader would remain silent while inaccurate claims are circulated as facts.
It urged members of the public, bloggers, and media organisations to confirm information relating to the church through its official communication channels before publication.
The church also maintained that any statement not released or verified through RCCG’s recognised platforms should not be regarded as its official position.
