The family of late Nigerian singer Mohbad has expressed concerns about the ability of some laboratories selected for the paternity test of his son, Liam.
In a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, Oladayo Ogungbe, the family’s lawyer acting for the applicant Joseph Aloba, said the issue arose after preliminary checks revealed that two of the laboratories may lack the technical capacity to conduct post-mortem DNA testing.
According to Ogungbe, a court had directed on February 24, 2026, that DNA tests be conducted in three laboratories agreed upon by both parties and the court to ensure transparency. The laboratories include DNA Diagnostics Centre in Fairfield, Ohio, United States, nominated by the applicant; Alpha Biolabs in Warrington, United Kingdom, nominated by the respondent; and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited in London, United Kingdom, appointed by the court through the Social Welfare Officer.
Before samples were collected, the applicant’s representatives contacted the laboratories to confirm their ability to carry out post-mortem DNA analysis involving tissue from embalmed remains.
“The responses received from Alpha Biolabs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited indicated that they do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies,” the statement said, noting that this raised concerns about the reliability of the results.
The development has been formally brought to the attention of the court through an affidavit.
Ogungbe dismissed claims that Joseph Aloba intentionally chose unqualified laboratories, stressing that only one of the three facilities was nominated by the applicant. “He remains committed to due process and to a DNA testing procedure that is transparent, scientifically credible, and in strict compliance with the court’s directive,” the lawyer said.
The family’s legal team emphasized their focus on ensuring a fair, credible, and legally compliant DNA testing process.
