The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has approved the appointment of Muhammad Bashir Dasuki as the new Chief Imam Fulani of the Ilorin Emirate.
The announcement was contained in a statement released by the Emir’s Personal Assistant, Abdulraheem Muritala, who noted that Sheikh Dasuki emerged after a rigorous selection process involving several Islamic scholars.
The 42-year-old cleric comes from a well-known family of Islamic leaders in Ilorin. He is the grandson of the 8th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam Fulani, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.
Before his elevation, he was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies in Airport, Egbejila, Ilorin. He also regularly led daily prayers and Jumu’ah services at Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque in Oko-Olowo, while actively engaging in Islamic education through teaching and radio programmes.
Sheikh Dasuki holds academic training in Islamic studies from various institutions, including Al-Azhar University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Shari’ah, and Al-Hikmah University, where he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies.
The Emir, while reacting to the appointment, prayed for divine guidance, wisdom, good health, and longevity for the new Chief Imam as he assumes spiritual leadership in the emirate.
He also expressed confidence that Sheikh Dasuki would provide sound religious direction and help strengthen unity and development within the Muslim community across Ilorin Emirate.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
