The Katsina State Government has expressed grief over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held by bandits after efforts to secure his release failed.

The sad development was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, who described the late military officer’s passing as a huge loss to his family, Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.

According to the government, Major General Abubakar died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while still in captivity.

Authorities disclosed that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, had made sustained attempts to rescue the retired general, but the efforts did not yield the desired result.

“The Katsina State Government, with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss, wishes to inform the general public of the tragic passing of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in the bandits’ captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various Security Agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy.

“The deceased Retired General died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension. His abduction and subsequent death are not only a loss to his family and Katsina State but a monumental loss to the entire country.”

The government extended its sympathies to the bereaved family, praying that they find the strength to bear the loss of the respected military veteran.
