The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has announced Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

The decision was confirmed on Monday by Gwarzo’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, who said the choice followed wide consultations with party stakeholders ahead of the polls.

According to him, the selection was made to strengthen the party’s structure and improve its chances in the upcoming election.

“The governorship candidate of our great party, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State,” Shuaibu said.

He added that Mustapha Kwankwaso was chosen based on his loyalty and active participation in party activities, noting that the move would help consolidate support across the state.

Mustapha is the son of former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Party insiders say the choice is expected to strengthen the influence of the Kwankwasiyya political structure within the NDC as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, emerged as the party’s flagbearer after consultations with key stakeholders.

Political analysts believe the selection of Mustapha Kwankwaso could significantly shape political alignments in Kano ahead of the governorship race.
