Nigeria will miss the FIFA World Cup for a second consecutive edition after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 tournament.

The team’s hopes were dashed after a heartbreaking playoff defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo, losing 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The result ended a qualification campaign that began with high expectations, considering the array of talent in the squad, but ultimately ended in disappointment.

Speaking about the setback, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen admitted he was devastated by Nigeria’s failure to reach football’s biggest tournament.

“I feel bad not playing the World Cup. This is the second time in a row. I was talking with the other guys and they feel the same way, but we move,” he said.

The Galatasaray forward has repeatedly expressed his dream of representing Nigeria at the World Cup and is said to be among several players still struggling to come to terms with the elimination.

Other stars, including Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi, are also believed to be disappointed after the Super Eagles fell short despite showing moments of brilliance during the qualifiers.

With the World Cup dream over, Nigeria will now shift focus to upcoming competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations, as the team looks to rebuild and return stronger on the international stage..
