Nigerian music star Asake has shared details about his relationship with his father, revealing how their differences shaped his journey into music.
Speaking during an interview on Korty EO, the singer explained that he left home as a teenager after his father opposed his decision to pursue a career in music.
He described their bond as strong during his early years but admitted things changed when he became determined to follow his passion. According to him, his father’s strict nature made it difficult for him to stand his ground openly.
“The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face. We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no.
But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me”.
Despite the disagreement that led to his departure, Asake said his feelings toward his father have not changed, stressing that his love remains unwavering.
He added that no matter the circumstances, his father would always remain important to him, noting that he values him just as much as his mother.
