Actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has spoken about her journey in Nollywood, revealing that it took several years in the industry before she started earning substantial income from acting, despite beginning her career in 2001.
In a video, the actress recalled the financial difficulties she faced in her early years, explaining that actors were not well paid at the time.
“I just started making money 8 years ago, and I’ve been in the film industry since 2001. Back then, we acted and got peanuts, but we did it just to survive,” she said.
Her reflection sheds light on the realities of Nollywood’s early days, when many actors worked primarily out of passion and perseverance, often accepting low pay while building their careers.
