Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has made a sharp U-turn after publicly backing President Bola Tinubu at a campaign rally, now apologising to Nigerians and distancing himself from politics.

At the event, Afolayan had defended the president’s performance, insisting he was doing well personally despite widespread complaints about hardship. He credited Tinubu for engaging the United Arab Emirates to lift restrictions on Nigerians and argued that many citizens focus more on criticism than acknowledging progress. He also downplayed reports of insecurity, suggesting some were exaggerated.

However, after facing heavy backlash online, the actor retracted his comments and issued an emotional apology.

“To all Nigerians, please forgive me. I’m very sorry. The cvr$3s you guys are raining on me is too much. I didn’t take money from anyone. It’s obvious that there’s insecurity and the government isn’t doing anything; what I was trying to say is don’t answer anyone who is saying there’s no insecurity. My best friend’s mother was k1dn&pp3d and we paid ransom; how would I say there’s no insecurity? I’m withdrawing myself from anything that has to do with politics.”

In a show of remorse, Afolayan was seen kneeling as he apologised, expressing regret over his earlier stance and announcing his decision to stay away from political discussions going forward.
