Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed that she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) because the party’s consensus governorship candidate failed to honour commitments made to her and her supporters.
Speaking during an appearance on the Morayo Show, Iyabo said her decision to quit the ruling party was driven by disappointment over what she described as unfulfilled promises.
“I resigned from the APC because I was upset that the consensus candidate failed to keep the promises he made to me and my followers,” she said.
Her remarks came shortly after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State formally welcomed her into its fold following her defection from the APC.
Iyabo returned to active politics in January 2026 after a 15-year break, joining the APC and declaring her intention to contest the Ogun State governorship election.
She, however, resigned from the party on May 31, 2026, after losing the governorship ticket, accusing the APC leadership of disrespect, betrayal and unfair treatment.
