Nigerian singer Tekno has claimed that love has not been the same since the COVID-19 pandemic, saying the 2020 lockdown changed how many people view relationships and marriage.
Speaking during a recent interview with Cool FM, the singer said couples who spent extended periods together during the lockdown discovered they were not as compatible as they had believed.
According to him, the experience made many people less willing to commit to long-term relationships.
“I think since after 2020, love is not the same. During COVID, people got to spend time with their loved ones and realised maybe they didn’t really love the person as much as they thought,” Tekno said.
He added that many relationships suffered because partners no longer had the chance to miss each other, making their presence feel less special.
Tekno also expressed concern over the growing number of failed marriages, noting that celebrities and respected public figures have not been immune to relationship controversies.
He further lamented the shift in the entertainment industry, saying genuine love stories no longer dominate music and movies as they once did.
“That’s why I’m asking the question, where did love go? There was a time when love was real. Even our movies revolved around love. Now it’s mostly about clout and influencing. It doesn’t feel organic anymore,” he added.
