Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports alleging that she has filed for divorce from her husband.
Reacting in a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday, Okwu-Kanu said the claim was completely false and urged the public to disregard it.
“My attention has been drawn to false reports circulating online claiming that I have filed for divorce from my husband, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” she wrote.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not filed for divorce. The publication is entirely false and should be treated as misinformation.”
She also expressed disappointment over the spread of what she described as fabricated stories about her family, saying such reports are published without any effort to verify the facts.
“It is unfortunate that some individuals continue to fabricate stories about my family without any attempt at verification. Such actions undermine responsible journalism and public trust,” she said.
Okwu-Kanu urged the public to ignore the divorce reports and rely only on information released directly by her or through her authorised representatives.
“I encourage the public to disregard the false report and rely only on information released directly by me or through my authorised representatives.
“I also wish to thank everyone who reached out to verify the story before sharing it. Your thoughtfulness and commitment to the truth are deeply appreciated,” she added.
