Leading figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, Rabiu Kwankwaso and David Mark, gathered in Abuja on Thursday for a press conference to address the party’s escalating leadership dispute.
Their appearance comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official records as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.
The commission also declared that it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is pursuing the chairmanship position through the courts.
INEC further stated that it has suspended recognition of all factions within the ADC and will not supervise any conventions or congresses organised by groups aligned with the affected leaders.
According to the electoral body, the measures will remain in place pending the outcome of a substantive suit currently before the Federal High Court.
