Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reaffirmed full legislative and political support for the creation of Anioma State, emphasizing that the initiative remains a priority for the current administration.

Speaking on Wednesday at the South-South zonal congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Asaba, Delta State, Akpabio stated that President Bola Tinubu’s government is committed to seeing the proposal through.

He noted that Warri would serve as the capital of the restructured Delta State, highlighting its existing infrastructure, including an airport, seaport, government offices, major oil companies, and a stadium.

The congress drew governors from Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River states, alongside other political leaders and party stakeholders from across the South-South region.

Akpabio described the push for Anioma State as historically justified, rooted in equity, administrative efficiency, and balanced development. He credited Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, for championing the initiative and confirmed that it continues to receive legislative attention.

The Senate President said the creation of Anioma State would bring socio-economic and administrative benefits, split Delta into two viable entities, and promote decentralisation.

“Anioma State will be created, with Asaba as its capital. The Senate fully supports the initiative spearheaded by Senator Ned Nwoko. This step will usher in a new era of development and shared prosperity for all constituent communities. With Asaba as Anioma State capital, Warri will be the capital of the new Delta,” Akpabio declared.
