Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar welcomed Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to his Abuja residence on Saturday, marking a significant meeting between two key opposition figures from Nigeria’s last presidential election.

Atiku, who ran under the Peoples Democratic Party, finished as the runner-up in the election won by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party drew notable support, amassing about one million votes in Kano, a state historically dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The former vice-president described the visit as a courtesy call focused on national issues.

“This evening, I received the former Governor of Kano State and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation. -AA”

News of the meeting quickly circulated online, prompting reactions from political supporters and analysts who are closely watching what the alliance between the two opposition leaders could mean for Nigeria’s political landscape.
