Joseph Aloba, known as Baba Mohbad, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the international community to assist in conducting a DNA test on his grandson, Liam.

Nearly three years after the death of 27-year-old Afrobeats singer Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, his body remains in the morgue due to unresolved questions over Liam’s paternity.

A court had ordered DNA samples to be collected, but the process has faced repeated delays because of logistical issues with laboratories abroad. The disagreement between Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, and his family has kept the matter tied up in legal proceedings since September 2023.

In a video circulating online, Baba Mohbad described the situation as painful, warning that burying his son without resolving the DNA issue could make it impossible to confirm the child’s identity.

“I’m pleading with the entire world, not just Lagos state government, for help. I’ve been trying to reach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I need this DNA test so I can finally lay my son to rest. If I bury him now, how will I do the DNA test? Who will I test? I want to be sure Liam is truly my grandchild,” he said.

He also accused Lagos State authorities of deliberately delaying the process, claiming a welfare officer recommended unverified hospitals to obstruct the test. Baba Mohbad said he plans to return to his home state, Ekiti, once justice is achieved.

“I don’t understand why Lagos state is deliberately delaying the DNA process, just to punish me over my son. The welfare officer who picked fake hospitals for DNA should be punished,” he added.
