An immigration officer, Umar Yusuf, has reportedly been kidnapped by bandits following an attack on a Nigeria Immigration Service outpost in Balia community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to residents who spoke with Daily Trust, the assailants arrived on motorcycles and launched the raid around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, overpowering the officers stationed at the facility. The outpost is located along Babanna Road, near the border with Benin Republic.
An immigration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the attackers seized two AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunition during the assault. Locals noted that Babanna Road has long been associated with banditry and terrorist activity.
This incident follows a pattern of violent attacks in the area. In November 2025, two soldiers were killed and several others, including civilians and security personnel, were injured when a convoy belonging to Hon. Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency, was ambushed while travelling to Babanna.
Earlier, in July 2025, a Superintendent of Immigration named Suleiman was killed at a service outpost in Lumma Sanke along the Babanna–Wawa Road. He reportedly lost his life when heavily armed attackers, suspected to be ISWAP operatives, stormed the post, killed him, and set both his body and service weapon on fire.
The abduction of Umar Yusuf underscores the ongoing security threats faced by security personnel operating in the region.
