Tragedy struck Nuku community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday as armed bandits carried out a deadly attack that claimed the lives of five forest guards, including their commander.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the area and unleashed destruction, smashing the guards’ motorcycles and setting several houses on fire.
The violence also extended to security assets, with police patrol vehicles in the community reportedly burnt during the raid.
Eyewitnesses said the sudden invasion threw the entire community into panic, forcing residents to flee in different directions in a desperate bid to escape the chaos.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire, stating that a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation is currently underway to identify and apprehend those behind the attack.
