Adebayo Adelabu has stepped down as Nigeria’s Minister of Power to focus on his governorship bid in Oyo State.

In a letter dated March 26, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Adelabu expressed gratitude for the trust and opportunity to serve in the federal cabinet.

“I write with profound gratitude to Your Excellency to formally tender my resignation from my position as the Honourable Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria. I wish to sincerely thank Your Excellency for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity given to serve our great nation under your administration. It has been a privilege contributing to the efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector in line with your Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.

He added that his resignation was necessary to dedicate his full time and resources to contesting the governorship election in Oyo State.
