Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been elevated to the position of acting general secretary of the Confédération Africaine de Football.

The development was confirmed on Sunday by CAF President Patrice Motsepe during a press conference held in Cairo after a meeting with senior officials of the body.

Adamu takes over from Veron Mosengo-Omba, who is stepping down from the role he has occupied since March 2021.

The 66-year-old outgoing official had drawn criticism for remaining in office beyond CAF’s official retirement age of 63. He also faced accusations from some staff members over alleged workplace issues, though an investigation into the claims later cleared him of any wrongdoing.

In reaction, the Nigeria Football Federation praised Adamu’s appointment, posting a congratulatory message on X.

”Congratulations to our own Samson Adamu, who has been appointed Acting General Secretary of CAF.”
