Patrice Motsepe has touched down in Dakar for a high-level visit aimed at engaging football authorities and top government officials in Senegal.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) boss was received upon arrival by Abdoulaye Fall, who heads the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football.

As part of his itinerary, Motsepe is expected to hold talks with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and later address journalists at a press conference.

His visit comes against the backdrop of a recent controversy involving Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign. The country had initially celebrated victory after defeating Morocco in the final on January 18. However, the CAF Appeals Board later overturned the result and awarded the title to Morocco.

The decision followed findings that Senegal breached Articles 82 and 84 of the competition’s regulations after some players walked off the pitch in protest over a refereeing call during the match.
