The Edo State Police Command has arrested all individuals involved in the recent bullying incidents at Igbinedion Education Centre.
Viral videos from the school showed students being beaten, kicked, and flogged, reportedly by senior students.
According to a statement by the state police spokesman, Eno Ikoedem, the suspects were apprehended after a thorough investigation and will be charged in family court under laws on juvenile justice and child protection.
The police detailed that the events began on Thursday, 5/03/2026, when two 14-year-old female students had a disagreement with another student. During the argument, the student allegedly insulted their late father, saying, “Ogun kill your papa.”
Angered by the remark, the girls reportedly attacked the student after school. A parent who arrived to pick up her son tried to intervene but was confronted and had her clothes pulled by the girls. The school later expelled them for violent conduct.
The next day, 06/03/2026, a male student, whose mother had been assaulted earlier, allegedly carried out a revenge attack on the student featured in the viral video. The assault was recorded by another student. The victim is the brother of the girls who had attacked his mother.
In response, the Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate intensification of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across all secondary schools in Edo State to address supervision gaps and prevent similar incidents.
The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices has also been deployed to engage students and school authorities through advocacy, sensitisation, and reorientation programs.
The police urged parents, guardians, and school administrators to take active roles in guiding and supervising children, while advising students to avoid violence and report grievances through proper channels.
The Edo State Police Command assured the public that proactive measures are being taken to ensure justice is served and to prevent a recurrence, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding children and maintaining law and order.
