Five people have been taken into custody for allegedly sexually molesting and harassing women during a festival in Ozoro, Delta State.
The arrests were confirmed by SP Bright Edafe, spokesman for the Delta State Police Command, who said the incident came to light after disturbing footage circulated online. Delta State Police Commissioner Aina Adesola condemned the acts as “criminal, inhumane, and a gross violation of the rights and dignity of the victims.”
The videos reportedly show young women being assaulted during a local event in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area. Following the viral circulation of the footage, the police launched an immediate investigation, leading to the arrest of the festival’s chief organiser and five suspects.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Investigators have been deployed with instructions to identify, apprehend, and ensure the prosecution of anyone involved.
The police have called on victims and witnesses to provide information to aid the investigation, assuring that all tips will be treated confidentially. Residents have been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding as authorities continue their work to safeguard citizens and maintain public order.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to prosecuting all individuals involved in the incident to the fullest extent of the law.
